Rabbits:
Long floppy ears, soulful eyes, soft fluffy coats, furry toes
and wiggly noses, all of these descriptive phrases apply to
rabbits, one of the fastest growing segments of our pet
population. Friendly, cuddly and clean also describe them and
their habits.
House trainable, they do equally well in apartments
or homes. Usually easy to feed and train, they need a well
kept area for themselves, good food (quality rabbit pellets) and
abundant fresh, natural hay, and a litter pan. After that, if
you let them roam, there is no telling where they will pop up.
Their care is based on the prevention of health
problems and disease. Semi-annual physical examinations and diagnostic tests at times, castration for male and ovariohysterectomies (spay) for female
non-breeding pets, and proper nutrition have extended their lives,
and now makes it possible for us to enjoy rabbits as family members
for years. The actual life expectancy varies with the breed,
but is not uncommon for house rabbits to enjoy good health
for 6 to 10 years with good care.
