Informed pet owners provide
much better care for, and improve the lives of, animals they love
and enjoy. Correct medical attention, proper diets, and good
husbandry suggested by caring veterinarians will often lengthen the
lives of pets substantially, and add quality to their lives.
Who could love a sixteen foot long Python or a ten pound
Savannah Monitor? In our practice, people can and do, and
they also have five-foot iguanas or turtles wandering around the
house. Snakes, lizards and turtles have become popular pets,
but, as with birds, they are not for everyone. Meticulous
cleanliness, proper housing and strict attention to their diets are
only some the factors required for success when working with these
animals.
Physical
examinations at least twice a year, and diagnostic tests at times, help prevent
problems, allow nutritional adjustments as needed and ensure a more
healthy pet. If you enjoy things that slither, creep, crawl,
lumber and dart in the day or night, reptiles might be for you, but
you must learn about them first, or you will not succeed.
More of Louie! As you can
see, Louie lives at home in the "lap of luxury." His mother
treats him very well, letting him roam the house, plants, curtains
and walls. She also feeds him the correct diet which is
extremely important for his survival and growth. I see him
often for nail trims, examinations and any other health
questions.
