Main: Summer Training Tops
Our Mission :  To offer the best in modern veterinary care to Central Texas pets and their families.

Like spring, we never really know when summer will arrive.  From the standpoint of months, every Texan knows that by mid-June the daytime temperatures will rise well into the nineties, and sometimes higher.  The secret in pet health when hotter weather arrives, no matter what the month, is to be prepared.  There are several steps to take to protect your pet.

Please remember:

  •  In the summer when it is very hot, your pet is just like you.  When outside, they need lots of water and shade, whether a tree, a carport or patio, or even a piece of 4'X4' plywood raised above the ground to the height of four to six feet.  Give your pet protection from the sun!
  •  Dogs can tolerate the sun and heat, and they may run or play with you, but they must be acclimated to the higher temperatures.  To do this, start exercising with them before summer arrives and always GO SLOWLY INITIALLY
  •  Water is always important when an animal is outside in soaring temperatures, and it is especially so for the pets that have not run or exercised recently.  You may want to carry a water bottle, and remember, the water is not just for the human.  Other sources of water when jogging are sprinkler systems in yards, outdoor faucets, streams and creeks and water fountains or hoses at service stations or other public businesses.
  •  If your pet accompanies you when you travel, do not leave them in your car when you get out!  Even if you lower the windows several inches during the summer, temperatures inside will quickly rise to over 100 degrees.
  •  When going to the Mall or shopping, leave your pet at home!
