Our Mission :  To offer the best in modern veterinary care to Central Texas pets and their families.

In Texas, spring usually arrives by the middle of March, but it can still become cold overnight after that.  There are also periods in December, January and February when it can be quite warm.

What have these statements got to do with animals and veterinary medicine?  Simple, some people are fooled by the mild conditions whenever they may come, and if they are, a few have done things that have harmed their pets.

The best plan during this time of the year is to remember that, although it is warm, winter can still arrive with a vengeance, and if it does, unprotected animals, large or small, are vulnerable.

  • Make certain your pets have access to shelter.
  •  Provide plenty of water, just as in the summer, because if the temperatures rise too high, mid to upper 80's, the early spring is a perfect time for veterinarians to see cases of heat stroke!
  •  Do not leave your pet locked in the car while you are shopping.  This is the perfect way to cause heat stroke, too.  If you go to the mall, leave your pet at home!
  •  Because of variable weather conditions, do not have your pet's coat trimmed too short too soon.  In Texas, it is probably best to wait until at least the middle of April or the first of May to do heavy trimming.
  •  A pet's grazing on the deep green, rapidly growing grasses that are seen in everyone's yards in the spring can cause digestive tract upsets, and then you have to deal with a dog or cat that has diarrhea or vomiting, or in the worst case, both.  If you prevent the grass consumption, your pet will feel better because of your effort.
